Julie Bloom

Julie is a psychotherapist currently in private practice who, over the course of 40 years, has worked with individuals, couples and families helping them to live rich and purposeful lives. She is a mother and grandmother whose belief that we are all responsible for one another has brought her to Stepping Stones where she hopes she can make a difference.

Glenn Burkholder, President

Glenn, owner of Burkholder LLC, specializes in working with the insurance and investment needs of small businesses.  He had some difficult times growing up as the son of a Minister, and has been on the other side as a parent of two children, so he can relate to the challenges of the teenage years.

Cary Buzzelli

Cary is a professor of early childhood education in the School of Education at Indiana University. He has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Dayton, a master's degree in child development and early childhood education at Purdue University, and a doctoral degree in early childhood education from Georgia State University. He became acquainted with Stepping Stones when he and his wife attended an open house at the apartments and was impressed with the mission and work of Stepping Stones.

Steve Englert

Steve is currently the Accounting Program Chair in the School of Business at Ivy Tech Community College. He graduated from Indiana University in 1971 with a B.S. degree in Business, and has a Certified Public Accountant's license obtained in March of 1999. His wife Debbie, recently retired from Indiana University, have two boys and two dogs. He thinks it is unacceptable that any teenager is homeless and wants to be part of the solution—Stepping Stones is one venue that serves that purpose.

Darla Hartung-Starns

Darla is a physical damage/cargo claims supervisor at Great West Casualty Company. She attended Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne. She was moved by the stories the Stepping Stones residents shared in a video that she saw at a Step-Up event.

Pamela J. Hensler, Secretary

Pamela is a litigation partner at the law firm of Clendening Johnson & Bohrer, P.C.   She earned her B.A. in English and Political Science from Indiana University in 1992 and her J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law Alumni in 2000.  She enjoys helping people, especially in times of crisis, and remains sane by hiking in the woods for long stretches at a time.

Bruce McAllister, Program Committee Chair

Bruce is a lecturer for the Indiana University School of Social Work and coordinates student outreach efforts for the school. His M.S.W. degree is from Western Michigan University and B.A. in Sociology is from IU. He finds working with Stepping Stones rewarding because they serve the needs of a population that are not addressed by any other organization.

Rhemma Payne

Rhemma is currently a counseling intern at Bloomington Meadows Hospital working with children and adolescents in the psychiatric residential treatment program as well as a certified substitute teacher for the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC). She graduated from Indiana University with both a Bachelors and Masters in Applied Health Science and currently completing a Masters in Professional Counseling through Liberty University. As a former Resident Assistant for Stepping Stones (in 2008), she sees the need for supporting this organization using her community influence to bring awareness and support to the needs of homeless youth in Bloomington and surrounding areas.

Sophia Percival, Development Committee Co-chair

Sophia currently works at Cook Pharmica as the Technical Services Team Coordinator for the Small Scale Form/Fill/Finish manufacturing area. She graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering. She chose to be involved with Stepping Stones because of how great it is to see the impact that the organization directly has on youth in her hometown community. 

Sophia Percival

Pennie Rogers

Pennie works at Ivy Tech Community College, Bloomington as a full time instructor in the nursing department and teaches online for Marian University's nursing program out of Indianapolis. She has an associate's degree in nursing from IU, a bachelor's in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan, and a master's in nursing education from Walden University. Her interest in Stepping Stones comes from her nursing background, and she views these youth from a holistic standpoint where elements of the mind, body, and spirit converge to create a whole. She is interested in the challenges they face, the resiliency they need to overcome obstacles, either real or perceived, and assisting them in reaching their goals and ambitions in life.

Chelsey Siville

Chelsey is currently a therapist at Bloomington Meadows Hospital and works with children, adolescents and adults on the in-patient acute unit. She graduated from Indiana University with her Master's and Specialist Degrees in Counseling Psychology and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Chelsey has a strong passion for working with youth and found Stepping Stones to be a great way to support and advocate for the youth in her community.

Leo Ward

Leo is currently a Mental Health Technician at Bloomington Meadows Hospital and works with the adolescents on the inpatient acute unit. He graduated from Middle Georgia State College with an Associate's Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistance and obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Bethune-Cookman University in Clinical Laboratory Science. Leo believes that all people have a responsibility to speak life into others and to help motivate individuals to overcome and persevere through life obstacles until success is obtained.
